Senior Photos in Lawrence, KS: Why It's Never Too Early to Start Planning
The funny thing about senior photos is that no matter which season you love most, planning ahead is what gives you the most options.
Every year I talk with seniors who have a specific vision for their session. Some dream of spring blossoms and fresh colors. Others want golden fields, vibrant fall leaves, or that warm autumn glow. If you're still deciding which season fits your style best, be sure to check out my blog, The Great Debate: Spring vs. Fall Portrait Sessions, where I break down the unique benefits of each season. The seniors who start planning early usually get exactly what they want. The ones who wait often find themselves choosing from whatever dates are still available.
That's especially true here in Lawrence. Between our two HUGE local high schools, the University of Kansas, Haskell Indian Nations University, Baker University, and Ottawa University, there are a lot of graduates looking to celebrate an important milestone. Senior photo season may seem like it lasts all year, but the most popular dates tend to fill surprisingly quickly.
Your Senior Photos Should Reflect You
One of my favorite things about senior sessions is that no two are ever the same. Some seniors want photos that feel adventurous and outdoorsy. Others want an urban downtown vibe. Some bring sports equipment, musical instruments, books, or other hobbies that tell their story. Others simply want beautiful images that capture who they are during this exciting season of life.
That's why planning ahead matters. The earlier we start talking, the more time we have to choose locations, coordinate outfits, and create a session that feels personal rather than rushed. If you're already thinking about what to wear, have a look at the What To Wear - Girls Edition blog I wrote.
And guys, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you. I also have a senior style guide specifically for guys: What To Wear - Guys Edition.

High School Seniors: Don't Forget About Deadlines
For high school seniors, there is another reason to plan ahead: yearbook deadlines. Every school handles senior submissions differently, and those deadlines often arrive sooner than expected. Between sports, activities, part-time jobs, college applications, and everything else happening during senior year, the months can disappear quickly.
Booking your session early gives you more flexibility and helps ensure you're not scrambling at the last minute.
College Graduates: This Chapter Deserves to Be Celebrated
Whether you're graduating from the University of Kansas, Haskell, Baker, or Ottawa, completing your degree is a huge accomplishment. Graduation season tends to arrive in a blur of final exams, projects, celebrations, and future plans. It's easy to tell yourself you'll figure photos out later, but later often comes faster than expected.
Some of my favorite senior sessions happen on campus, where graduates can celebrate the places, buildings, and memories that helped shape their college experience. Planning ahead makes it much easier to secure those locations and create a session that feels meaningful.
The Best Time to Book Is Before You Need To
One thing I've noticed over the years is that seniors who book early tend to enjoy the experience more. They're not stressed about deadlines. They're not trying to squeeze a session into an already packed schedule. Instead, they have time to think about what they want, choose locations they love, and actually enjoy the process.
Senior photos aren't just another item to check off a graduation to-do list. They're a way to preserve a moment you'll never get back.
Whether you're hoping for spring blooms, summer adventures, fall colors, or something completely unique, a little planning goes a long way toward creating a session you'll be excited about for years to come.
